This Cookie Statement explains how EconMetrics Consulting use cookies and similar technologies to recognize you when you visit our website at www.econ-metrics.com (“website”). It explains what these technologies are and why we use them, as well as your rights to control our use of them.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used by website owners in order to make their websites work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information.

Cookies set by EconMetrics Consulting are called “first-party cookies.” Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called “third-party cookies.” Third-party cookies enable third-party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website (e.g., like advertising, interactive content, and analytics). The parties that set these third-party cookies can recognize your computer both when it visits the website in question and also when it visits certain other websites.

Why do we use cookies?

We use first-party and third-party cookies for several reasons. Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for our website to operate, and we refer to these as “essential” or “strictly necessary” cookies. Other cookies also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance the experience on our website. Third parties serve cookies through our website for advertising, analytics, and other purposes. This is described in more detail below.

How can I control cookies?

You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies. You can exercise your cookie preferences by clicking on the appropriate opt-out links provided in this page.

You can set or amend your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies. If you choose to reject cookies, you may still use our website though your access to some functionality and areas of our website may be restricted. As the means by which you can refuse cookies through your web browser controls vary from browser to browser, you should visit your browser’s help menu for more information.

In addition, most advertising networks offer you a way to opt out of targeted advertising. If you would like to find out more information, please visit https://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or https://www.youronlinechoices.com.

How often will you update this Cookie Statement?

We may update this Cookie Statement from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to the cookies we use or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Please therefore re-visit this Cookie Statement regularly to stay informed about our use of cookies and related technologies. The date at the top of this Cookie Statement indicates when it was last updated.

Where can I get further information?

If you have any questions about our use of cookies or other technologies, please e-mail us at info@econ-metrics.com.

The specific types of first- and third-party cookies served through our website and the purposes they perform are described herein.

Essential website cookies

These cookies are strictly necessary to provide you with services available through our website and to use some of its features, such as access to secure areas.

EconMetrics Consulting (First Party)

ASP.NET_SessionId: General purpose platform session cookie, used by sites written with Miscrosoft .NET based technologies. Usually used to maintain an anonymized user session by the server. It expires at the end of a session.

Performance and functionality cookies

These cookies are used to enhance the performance and functionality of our website but are non-essential to its use. However, without these cookies, certain functionality may become unavailable.

Google Analytics (Third Party)

The Google Analytics service which enables website owners to track visitor behavior and measure site performance.

utmb: This cookie determines new sessions and visits and expires after 30-minutes. The cookie is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics. Any activity by a user within the 30-minute life span will count as a single visit, even if the user leaves and then returns to the site. A return after 30 minutes will count as a new visit, but a returning visitor.

utmv: This cookie is used when site owners create custom visitor-level variables for customizing what can be measured. The cookie is updated every time data are sent to Google Analytics. It has a default lifespan of two years, although this can be customized by site owners.

utmt: This cookie is used to throttle the request rate for the service—limiting the collection of data on high-traffic sites. It expires after 10 minutes.

utmz: This cookie identifies the source of traffic to the site—so Google Analytics can tell site owners where visitors came from when arriving on the site. The cookie has a life span of 6 months and is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics.

utma: This cookie lasts for 2 years by default and distinguishes between users and sessions. It is used to calculate new and returning visitor statistics. The cookie is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics. The lifespan of the cookie can be customized by website owners.

utmc: This cookie enables interoperability with the older version of Google Analytics code known as Urchin and is used in combination with the __utmb cookie to identify new sessions/visits for returning visitors.

When used by Google Analytics this is always a Session cookie which is destroyed when the user closes their browser. Where it is seen as a Persistent cookie it is therefore likely to be a different technology setting the cookie.

You may restrict the collection of Google Analytics using a web browser plug-in described in the “Use and Disclosure of Information” section above.

Alternatively, you may also opt out of Google Analytics collected on just this site.
